A little planning makes a big difference. Use this short guide to choose outfits that feel like you and photograph beautifully together.

01. COORDINATE—DON’T MATCH

Start with one patterned outfit and pull colors from it for everyone else.

For example:

Think of everyone’s outfits as one collection. The colors should work together without everyone wearing the exact same thing.

Choose 2–4 colors and repeat them throughout the family.

Don’t forget the little things:

Try on every outfit ahead of time—including shoes. Make sure everything fits comfortably and that children can sit, stand and move easily.

Wash, steam or iron everything before session day so there are no last-minute surprises.

To prevent wrinkles, you’re welcome to arrive a few minutes early and change into your outfits before your session.

Please arrive ready and on time. Mini Sessions are scheduled back-to-back, and arriving late may shorten your time in front of the camera.

Texture and personality go hand in hand—especially for kids.

Sweaters, denim, knits, corduroy and rich colors all photograph beautifully.

Layers add depth and interest. Try a cardigan, jacket, vest or textured sweater.

Avoid large logos, characters and busy patterns. They can distract from the faces and expressions we want you to remember.

Most importantly, choose clothing that feels comfortable and lets everyone move, play and be themselves.
